The country is already known to be a booming market for OTT platforms, with everyday different set of such platforms either merging with each other, or being bought by a bigger conglomerate. The Covid-19 pandemic may have slowed and hampered businesses of many sectors but OTT platform sector has seen a good boost in people around the globe consuming their content.

Netflix is looking forward to expand its offerings in the Indian video content section. It is thus, in talks with partnering with Network18 affiliates that include its joint venture with ViacomCBS, Viacom18. In 2019, its digital unit Tipping Point partnered with Netflix for three Hindi shows, but the present discussions are about a bigger tie-up. This can be understood as a bigger version of the 2019 deal, one of Netflix’s biggest moves to create local content in India.
Hindi is one among the 6 languages the inputs have been sought in as India remains one of the fastest growing markets globally. The other languages are English, Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese and Japanese.

Twitter said synthetic and manipulated media is any photo, audio, or video that has been significantly altered or fabricated in a way that intends to mislead people or changes its original meaning. These are sometimes referred to as deep fakes or shallow fakes.

The website content is now also available in Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada, even as English continues to be a widely used language on digital platforms in India, HDFC said.
HDFC Ltd is the only corporate in the financial sector to offer content on its website in six Indian languages, it added.

The growing use of internet and smartphones and rising base of regional language users, particularly in smaller towns, has made it important to focus on building digital properties and content where relevant information is available in local language as well, it said. Amazon, too, now offers Hindi browsing options on its website and iOS app; last year, the global e-commerce behemoth had introduced Hindi on its mobile site and Android app. These efforts are an attempt to capture the next 200 million users.
Experts say the vernacular market in the country presents a massive opportunity for e-commerce players. As per a recently released report by RedSeer Consulting, there are 530 million internet users in India, of which 260 million users are ‘monetizable’. The report says a large share of this audience, 80% or about 210 million, prefers content in vernacular languages and are likely to drive the growth of consumer internet, with $300 billion in annual spending power. However, sustained efforts beyond just providing language options will be the name of the game, say experts.

After having introduced its Hindi interface, Flipkart is now gearing up to introduce audio-guided navigation on its platform to help new users on the platform. “We started with Hindi and the plan is to go ahead with other languages as well in the future. Within a year, we plan to introduce southern languages on our platform,” says a Flipkart spokesperson. Experts say Amazon, too, would use audio in some way to tap new users, given that it already has voice technology (Alexa). Yet, that is the only language Amazon’s digital assistant Alexa, which was launched in India two years ago, understands in the nation. That is changing today.

The e-commerce giant informed that Alexa now supports Hindi, a language spoken by roughly half a billion people in India, as the company looks to expand its reach in the nation. Bringing support for Hindi to Alexa was in the works for more than a year, noting the unique contextual, cultural and content-related challenges that Hindi implementation posed.

Users can now ask Alexa their questions in Hindi, and the digital assistant will be able to respond in the same language. The feature, which will begin rolling out through a software update to Alexa devices starting today, currently only supports one voice type for Hindi. (For English, Alexa offers multiple voice types.) Watch the video to see her in action (Source: Quint).

In the months to come, Amazon said it plans to add support for multilingual households, which will enable members of the family to interact with Alexa in the language they each prefer. Amazon last year introduced support for Hindi language on its apps and website. It has seen Hindi usage grow on the site and app by six times in recent months, he said. Hindi queries related to laptops and PCs have doubled while there has been a 2.3X increase in Hindi queries about smartphones and mobile phones. Also, queries in regional languages are growing faster than English in ecommerce categories like clothing, beauty, and personal care.

“Indian language internet users are expected to account for nearly 75% of India’s internet user base by 2021, and Google search trends show a significant move in this direction,” the report said.

Vikas Agnihotri, country director, Google India, believes that the online space in India has never been more vibrant. “India has become the fastest internet consuming country in the world and the internet has now become the bridge to Bharat’s aspirations,” he added.

A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge better known as the PMBOK® Guide published by the Project Management Institute (PMI) has made a debut in India with a Hindi edition. Regarded as the project manager's bible worldwide, the PMBOK Guide is recognized by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) as an American National Standard.

India being a fast growing country has taken up various projects across sectors like infrastructure, IT, construction, housing, railway, etc. Project Management plays a vital role in successful and timely running and completion of projects. Understanding the importance of project managers in India, PMBOK Guide has been translated to Hindi.

The Guide recognizes 42 processes that fall into five basic process groups and nine knowledge areas that are typical of almost all projects. Each of the nine knowledge areas contains the processes that need to be accomplished within its discipline in order to achieve an effective project management program. Each of these processes also falls into one of the five basic process groups, creating a matrix structure such that every process can be related to one knowledge area and one process group.
debashishhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05581506338446555105noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-563311092998124478.post-17310622863147869282010-10-22T04:20:00.005+05:302010-11-09T04:32:59.700+05:30Google introduces Music search in Hindi

Google India labs has launched its online music service in India that enables users to search for legal music streams and downloads. This is the second lot of Norwegian children's literature to be translated in English. Last year, the Embassy of Norway had translated four children's books into Hindi.<img alt="Cover of "Pippi Longstocking"" height="320" src="http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/5127YDVCJYL._SL300_.jpg" style="border: medium none; font-size: 0.8em;" width="203" />Cover of Pippi Longstocking
The books translated this year include 'Naye Ghar Mein Gadbadi' written by Av Lene Ask, 'Chai ki Ketli' by Jan Kora Olen, 'Dost ya Dushman' by Kala Benedik and Trond Braenne; and 'Rajkumar Bho-Bho' by Bjorn Ousland. The translation projects have been funded by a non-profit Norwegian literary forum, Norla which is supporting the translation of yet another book, 'Out Stealing Horses', a work of fiction by Per Petterson, in three Indian languages. It will be released late autumn.

Besides, the organisation is also helping translate selected works of Norwegian playwright Ibsen in Indian languages. The Norwegian children's books in Hindi are 'pictorial novels' with colourful illustrations and accompanying texts. The books are subsidised and cost Rs.50 each.
Norway, along with Denmark and Sweden has a rich history of children's and young adult's literature. The number of candidates who cleared the IIT Joint Entrance Examination after taking the test in Hindi is three times the number in 2009, apparently bucking a trend of poor performances despite question paper errors disadvantaging them.

As many as 554 candidates who took the test in Hindi have qualified, compared with 184 last year, the IITs said while declaring their results today after over a month of controversy over instruction errors.

The IIT decision to declare the number of Hindi qualifiers was a first and was a direct outcome of concerns that the errors in question papers selectively hurt students who took the test in that language.
Worry not, for the latest innovation from the Google stable will make it easier for you. This new tool from Google labs, called the Script Converter, can help you read text in any language in any script you want, for example you may read Hindi text in Roman script (or vice-versa, as shown in the screen-grab below). The tool currently supports several Indian languages as well as English.

Interestingly such a tool was created by Alok Kumar quite some time back (2005 to be precise) and he had named it "Girgit" (Hindi for Chameleon). The tool is available at http://girgit.chitthajagat.in. Apparently Girgit also supports Gurumukhi (Punjabi) and Oriya (Odiya) not currently supported by Google's converter.debashishhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05581506338446555105noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-563311092998124478.post-22714799777831249912009-10-30T23:00:00.001+05:302010-09-27T03:36:10.102+05:30Now Internet URLs entirely in your own languageMoving away from Latin characters, Internationalized domain names (IDN) or the address that internet users type in the URL can soon be typed entirely in your own language (including the TLD). As result of the initiative by the Department of Information Technology (DIT) and C-DAC, by June 2010, typing domain name, like hindionweb.blogspot.com, in any of the 22 Indian language will become a reality.

Initially, it will be available for only new websites with dot in IDNs. A few government domain names such as pradhanmantri.in or bharat.in have been reserved. Despite of this welcome move there are several issues that still need to be resolved, especially issues arising out of the complexity of Indian scripts (for example: how do you distinguish between URLs types in Marathi and Hindi, since both use Devanagari script).debashishhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05581506338446555105noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-563311092998124478.post-60590130172230965432009-09-09T10:00:00.000+05:302009-09-09T10:00:08.422+05:30Cisco to localize its router software
Image via CrunchBase
In an interview with Digit magazine, Eskild Hansen, Head of the European Design Centre at Cisco told them what the latter thought of the Indian market in terms of Internet and Wi-Fi usage, as well as what Cisco's plans were for customised content. "We have received a huge response from the lawyers and collected over 3,000 signatures so far to support our campaign," said Ashok Aggarwal, president of the Delhi unit of the lawyers’ association.

"When lawyers argue in Hindi, judges do not pay attention to them and English has become a status symbol," Aggarwal said. Moreover, Article 348 of the constitution provides for arguing court cases in English as well as regional languages, Aggarwal pointed out.
Hindi is being used in the high courts of Rajasthan, Allahabad and Madhya Pradesh, but not in the national capital, according to the lawyers’ union.
"...we are seeing combination of Hindi-English, Malayalam-English or Kannada-English, Marathi-English. Its difficult to mine or understand this data because in India it is varied - we are talking 26 languages in combination with English...The vast majority (of users) is still in English script, though Indic language is growing, after transliteration was introduced. We see more communities using it. One such is the Hindi poetry community. (Source: Medianama)"
The growth is a welcome change, especially given the fact that Orkut is predominantly student driven in India. He demanded that Hindi be given recognition as the second national language in the Nepalese Constitution.
Speaking on "the present and future of Hindi language in Nepal" at a programme here, Mr. Roy recalled how he was kicked out of Parliament nine times in 1991 for speaking in Hindi. He said a marshal was asked to take him out of the Parliament repeatedly for speaking in Hindi, he said, adding the incident was also raised in the Indian Parliament. "After that pressure was created upon Nepal government and finally the Chairman of the Upper House or National Assembly Beni Bahadur Karki allowed me to speak in Hindi in the Parliament," he said.
Referring to the controversy that erupted after Vice President Parmananda Jha took the oath of office in Hindi, he said: "when the use of the language was allowed in the parliament then why (Mr. Jha) couldn't take oath of office and secrecy in Hindi".
